I was in the meeting with the other seniors and managers discussing over some issues at work. So far, no solution yet. Now in meetings, all I had to do is summarise the whole discussion; dissect only the keywords and discard the rest cos my mind bandwidth can only store that much.
During that discussion, I was slouching but absorbing, perhaps by third party's impression I wasnt really listening. Ppl just shouldnt be misjudged by appearances and behaviours.
Most of the time I realise ppl who appears not to be listening; they do. And during the time they are "not" listening, they've already made up their mind bout the speaker.
I remembered a job I had, a discussion with the new boss who was telling us of what he did and what he's going to do and what we need to provide. I initially looked at him and couldnt concentrate, thus I looked down on the piece of white paper in front of me and slouch.
When he finished, I didnt make a move yet cos I was absorbing bout what I should do, so a coll saw that I wasnt moving fast enough, and said laughingly that the meeting's over. I merely smiled and went back to my seat.
A lot of times in my short life, I get distracted too much by ppl's expression that I dont remember what they've spoken; just their face structure and how I felt during that time. A voice can become like a white noise; meaningless but hauntingly so.
The important bit is when I dont look at their face and start listening, then I started to hear more.
Sometimes an animated face can say so much, but take away the face, and I'll hear a boredom in the voice. That kinda makes me think; is the speaker really passionate bout the stuff he/she's talking bout, or are they just acting out?
They say; actions speak louder than words. But that only applies after they speak, not during.
Once I focus on the voices and words, I started hearing more.
